Teacher, students quarantined after eighth grader tests positive for COVID-19 in Ho Chi Minh City

The medical center in Thu Duc City under Ho Chi Minh City confirmed on Wednesday that the girl, only known as H.M.C., is a student at Tran Quoc Toan Middle School.

C. visited the school from 3:00 to 3:45 pm on May 27 to receive a reward for her good academic performance during the academic year.

The girl had close contact with her homeroom teacher and eight classmates.

After she tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the nine direct contacts have been quarantined and tested for COVID-19.

Her indirect contacts have been asked to fill out health declaration forms and undergo home quarantine for 21 days.

C. is now being treated at the makeshift hospital for COVID-19 treatment in Cu Chi District.

Her house and four next-door houses on Street No. 385 in Tang Nhon Phu A Ward, Thu Duc City have been temporarily fenced off, according to Tran Thi Thu Hoai, the ward chairwoman.

Vietnam has recorded 9,635 COVID-19 cases as of Thursday morning, with 3,636 recoveries and 55 deaths, according to the health ministry.

The country has documented 6,451 local infections in 39 provinces and cities since the fourth transmission wave began on April 27.

Ho Chi Minh City has detected 527 cases in this bout.

All students in the city were required to stay home and switch to remote learning from May 10 due to the serious COVID-19 pandemic.
