Cuba sends medicine, health experts to Vietnam for COVID-19 fight

The medicine, Interferon Alfa 2B produced by Cuba, helps stimulate the body’s production of anti-virus antibodies, which plays a significant role in treating serious COVID-19 cases.

The whole batch was immediately transferred to Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam, the country’s current outbreak epicenters.

A group of Cuban health experts was also sent to the two Vietnamese localities to support the pandemic response efforts.

They are undergoing a quarantine period in accordance with regulations, but are still able to share their knowledge and experience via online meetings.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sen. Lt. Gen. Vinh expressed gratitude to the Cuban people for their special sentiment to Vietnam, especially in this difficult time, and affirmed that this is a fine tradition in their bilateral solidarity and friendship.

Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera said the handover of the medicine affirmed Cuba’s desire to boost cooperation with Vietnam in medical and pharmaceutical sectors, which will contribute to bilateral relations.

The two nations are poised to mark their 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties on December 2 this year, she added.

Vietnam previously provided Cuba with three metric tons of medical supplies including rapid-result test kits, medical masks, protective clothing, and several types of medicine.
